The Local Learning Community Foundation (L2CF) seeks to increase awareness regarding environmental justice and those who help keep our neighborhoods clean. To that end, the L2CF conducted its third annual “Salute to Sanitation and Environmental Professionals” on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at the Starkville Sanitation Office, between 12 noon and 1:00 PM. The purpose of the salute was to express appreciation for the staff’s public displays of strong work ethics that benefit all residents and business/industry. Despite rain, extreme heat, ice/snow, freezing temperatures, and torn garbage bags, sanitation workers are “first-responders” on waste removal days. The salute helps to remind adults and children of the important and necessary roles those men and women play in our communities. Based on input from the staff, the L2CF sponsored a pizza party including brownies, beverages, and drawings for cash door prizes.
