Reading Proficiency Mini Grants

Based on a huge body of empirical research, at the root of life-long learning and academic success is reading proficiency at grade level. In a lot of states, students who cannot read at grade level in the third grade are automatically held back often beginning a downward spiral in terms of academic achievement and attainment. The L2CF offers tuition assistance to low income parents/guardians of public-school students who, based on previous test scores, need some supplemental tutoring and instruction in reading. In 2018, the L2CF supported six (6) students with partial scholarships to attend Ms. Smith’s Educational Services to improve their reading scores and academic success. Of the six, five completed the program and were placed on the Honor Roll, and one was selected to participate in PEAK, a gifted program.
