Results of empirical research have found that students, especially boys of color, lose academic ground during the summer break. The L2CF partnered with the Starkville-Oktibbeha My Brother’s Keeper Challenge (MBKC), and the MSU-Council on Minority Affairs (COMA) to help coordinate and sponsor an eight-week seminar that addressed the following subject areas: Communications/public speaking; chemistry/material science; information technology, financial literacy, leadership development, health and wellness; and entrepreneurship. Over two dozen young boys, grades sixth through eleventh participated in the sessions.
